Utilization of Local Wisdom in Ponorogo Wayang Gamelan as a Source of Science Learning: Socio-Cultural Analysis and the Concept of Sound Vibration Physics
Abstract
Gamelan is an example of local wisdom that needs to be preserved, one way is by integrating it as an educational tool. Gamelan musical instruments are very relevant to junior high school science material on Vibration and Sound. This can be demonstrated because of the differences in sound when the gamelan is played. This study aims to identify ethnosophysics practices in gamelan puppetry, especially those in Ponorogo, and the reconstruction of traditional knowledge into modern science. This study uses a qualitative research type through an ethnographic approach, and uses research methods in the form of direct observation and interviews at the residence of Mr. Muh. Hadi as the owner and player of the gamelan. Literature studies are also used to strengthen the research data. The practice of making, techniques, and how to play gamelan musical instruments is still very simple but also follows the development of the times and can be reconstructed into modern science. Gamelan can be used as a topic or educational tool, especially in the material of Vibration and Sound, this is included in contextual learning, so that students can understand science material by relating it to real-life practices.
